Bahaha! One look at these ol' birds and I just knew they had to be mine!
I had in mind a coordinating pair of tank tops however once their awesomeness arrived at my door, I realized just how life-sized they actually were. After a bit of pattern hunting, I decided on Alina and Co's Panama dress. In order to make sure the birds were centered correctly I traced the pattern out onto a clear plastic tablecloth.
I started with the Pelican dress for myself. After cutting out the original dress shape, I decided to modify it into a tank top dress, so I mashed it with the Halla Patterns Stardust tank. The dress sewed up really quickly! I followed Michelle's suggestion and used this great antique green solid as a coordinate for the back.
For the Flamingo version headed to my adventurous friend, I modified the clearplastic pattern piece to include the tank top modification.
I think they turned out wonderfully, if I do say so myself! We managed to sneak in an outing with our ol' birds before Fall begins in earnest. I am looking forward to getting good wear out of my Pelican next summer!!
I might still add some heat transfer vinyl to the solid back if I dream up a good design - maybe some seagulls in silver and white?
Thanks L'OISEAU fabrics for the opportunity to share my excitement over these two trouble makers!
